The Appling County Sheriff’s Office had a very busy week. Jailers Chris Sanders and Brandon Griffis began their 11 weeks of Basic Law Enforcement Training. Sheriff Melton and Chief Deputy Gene Davis conducted a Security Walk Through and Assessment for Midway Baptist Church. Chief Davis attended the Appling County Commissioners Meeting. Chief Investigator Jeff Evans and Corporal Joey Coleman attended Animal Cruelty Training. Sheriff Melton, Chief Davis, Investigators Jeff Evans, Scottie Tanner, Stacy Wilkerson and Anthony Tillman attended Safe Harbor Training. The Law Enforcement Explorer Post 560 participated in mock 911 calls as both the caller and the 911 Dispatcher. Pastor Ronnie Rentz of First Assembly of God was Chaplin for the week.
For the week of July 6, 2018 through July 12, 2018, the Appling County Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies and Investigators made 10 arrests, issued 47 warnings, wrote 35 citations, served 33 Criminal and six (6) Civil papers for various courts, completed 30 incident reports and provided security for Juvenile Court. K-9 officers performed three (3) drug search. There were 10 vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 7,936 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide one (1) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated six (6) new criminal investigations.
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 83 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 31 new inmate intakes and processed 20 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 66 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1732 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 704 calls for service, of which 236 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
