Authorities from multiple agencies responded to the Holiday Inn Express on Glynco Parkway after a US Army special agent claimed he was being held hostage by a man with a bomb.
An Army Criminal Investigation Division special agent received a text from another special agent at 10 a.m. Saturday. The text claimed a man with a bomb strapped to his body was holding the special agent hostage in a room at the hotel. Authorities evacuated the hotel as a precaution. The report was determined to be false after a standoff that lasted just over two hours.
Authorities determined the alleged victim was delusional and took him into custody, but charges have been deferred. The special agent was turned over to the Army CID Command at Ft. Stewart for mental evaluation.
The Army special agents were in town for advanced training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
The FBI, Georgia State Patrol, GCPD, SWAT, Glynn County EMS, FLETC and Ft. Stewart CID all responded.
